Earthquake Drill and YES Organization Activities

The Schools Division Office (SDO) of General Santos City is strengthening its commitment to safety preparedness by directing all public elementary and secondary schools to conduct regular earthquake drills.

In line with this advisory, New Society National High School (NSNHS) conducted a successful earthquake drill today, October 15, to enhance preparedness and response skills among students, teachers, and staff.

The drill focused on the critical “Drop, Cover, and Hold On” procedure. Students were observed diligently taking protective measures outdoors, covering their heads with books and hands, while teachers demonstrated calm and practical safety responses indoors, using objects like a small table or a chair to shield themselves. The exercise also included a scenario where quick first aid was administered, emphasizing the importance of immediate care during an emergency. The drill was an invaluable opportunity to test the school’s emergency protocols and ensure everyone is ready to act decisively when a real earthquake strikes.

NSNHS Students Promote Environmental Responsibility with YES Organization

On the same day, members of the Youth for Environment in Schools (YES) Organization at NSNHS engaged in a significant environmental activity. The students were actively involved in a cleanup and material recovery effort, seen collecting various recyclable and non-recyclable materials, including large sacks of plastic and paper waste, and organizing them near a large blue bin. This simultaneous initiative highlights the students’ commitment to both emergency preparedness and environmental stewardship—a truly busy and productive day for the school community!
